RedHatBlueHat Podcast Episode 18: Final Analysis

By Tim_Jones On November 4, 2008 Comments

Welcome to The Real Tim Jones. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or for more frequent, informal updates, you can follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!

I know these show notes are a bit late, but I thought it would be fitting that the notes were posted on election day.  The show featured the usual cast of Shawn Collins, Mike Allen, and myself, as well as a special guest, Jim Kukral.

This was definitely one of our best shows, yet.  Jim did a great job keeping the show on topic, as well as bringing up other topics.  The show ran the gammut from analyzing Barack’s infomercial, healthcare, taxes, economics, poverty, and on and on for an hour and twenty minutes.

This speaks to the reason that I feel this is a great show for election day.  We ran through a good list of topics and while the Red Hats and Blue Hats seldom agreed, you get a good feel for both sides and what they stand for on the issues.  A lot of fundamental beliefs were discussed.  I look forward to the shows following the election and to having Jim as a guest, again.  Here are some links from the show:

RedHatBlueHat Podcast: Episode 17 - There’s No Media Bias

By Tim_Jones On October 24, 2008 Comments

This week’s episode of the RedHatBlueHat Podcast featured the normal cast of Mike Allen, Shawn Collins, and myself.  If anyone wearing a blue hat would be interested in joining the cast of RedHatBlueHat, please let us know.  You could become one of the minority on the show and give us the left’s perspective on the national and local political issues affecting us, today.

This week, we discussed Palin’s wardrobe, the accuracy (or inaccuracy of the polls), and McCain’s POW video.

We also had more protracted discussions about the media bias and their lack of coverage of many McCain issues, including a campaign volunteer that was attacked (prior to the most recent one), the complete lack of coverage of Obama’s associations with the likes of Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, and so on, as well as my own local radio news (through a listener’s comments) portrayed Michelle Obama as “positive” and “joyful.”  If she’s positive and joyful, I’d hate to see her angry.  :)

Our discussion of the polls included thoughts on their accuracy due to poor sampling (you never poll people that only use cell phones, of which there are many), people’s honesty in exit polls, and how the media leaks of election results could sway the true results.  Will we have another election where exit polls sway this election’s results?

We tied it up with a great conversation about the economics policies of the two candidates, including some very good talks about socialism versus capitalism.

RedHatBlueHat Episode 16: Joe the Plumber, Hatchets, and Scalpels

By Tim_Jones On October 17, 2008 Comments

This week’s show featured the now normal cast of Mike Allen, Shawn Collins, and myself.  Since the show occurred the day after the final presidential debate, most of our discussions centered around the issues discussed at the debate.

We talked about Joe the Plumber, the true implications of reversing Roe v. Wade (meaning the issue would be remanded to the states), and Obama’s relationship with Bill Ayers.

We also spent a bit of time on some of the “conspiracy theories” surrounding the Obama candidacy, including whether or not he’s a US citizen.  While we all hesitate to don our tin foil hats and travel down the conspiracy path, this one seems so easy to eliminate by the Obama campaign.  So, why don’t they?

This morning I noticed another “conspiracy” theory gaining some momentum, also.  Apparently, there is some indications that Bill Ayers actually ghost-wrote one of Obama’s memoirs, Dreams From My Father.

We spent a good deal of time discussing our attempts to understand the liberal mind.  All of us had a great deal of difficulty with this task and we had some humorous, as well as serious, conversations in that regard.

Overall, this show had more humor than usual, so tune in and enjoy the light-hearted side of political discussion. :)

RedHatBlueHat Political Podcast: Episode 15 Biden-Palin Debate

By Tim_Jones On October 3, 2008 Comments

In this episode of the RedHatBlueHat podcast, Shawn and I were the only ones to show up to the debate.  Obviously, being the day of the debate between Vice-Presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, we discussed what we expected of the debate.  Personally, debates do little for me.  The answers are typically pretty standard, exactly what you would expect from either side, and they never change my vote.  The essense of this debate basically boiled down to the left hoping that Biden didn’t provide any more gaffes as ammo for the right and the right hoping for a clear, conservative message from Palin, without any stumbles.  As is usually the case, depending on which poll for which news service, both Biden and Palin won the debate.  As I said, these things do little for me.

We also discussed the government bail-out bill at some length, the increase in the FDIC limit, and the incredible amount of pork that has been added to the bail-out bill.

For some of the more interesting topics, we discussed ACORNs role in elections and their association with Obama, Pelosi’s future in the party (regardless of who gains/retains control of the House), and the potential for voter fraud in the early voting states.

Shawn and I also admitted to grave errors in our past when we fell victim to the Dark Side and voted for Democrat candidates for President.  We were all young and misinformed, once.  :)

RedHatBlueHat Episode 13: Sarah Palin VP

By Tim_Jones On September 5, 2008 Comments

Due to scheduling conflicts, today’s show soldiered on with only red hats participating.  Hopefully, the blue hats will return next week, otherwise we may change the name of the show to Red Hats, White Flag. :)  Next week, we will have a guest on the show, our first!  Shmuly Tennenhaus of Vanity Kippah will be joining us for the show.  He is a very creative entrepreneaur that has made and sells political kippahs (AKA yarmulke).  Although his kippahs come in white (Obamica) and blue (McCippah), we are happy to have him as a guest on RedHatBlueHat, next week.

This week, we had Shawn Collins, Mike Allen, and myself discussing Sarah Palin.  John McCain nominated Governor Palin after last week’s show, so we had a lot of information to cover, with her amazing speech the night before our show.  So, we went over the nomination, the speech, and the trumped up scandals in the few days since her nomination.  We also discuss how her nomination changes this election cycle and, more importantly, the future of the Republican party and the conservative movement.

For my part, I think McCain could not have made a better selection for VP.  McCain really had a lose-lose proposition for VP.  If he picked a moderate, like Lieberman, Pawlenty, etc. he really alienated a base that was already running away.  If he picked Romney, no excitement would come to the campaign.  None of the known players would really do anything for the campaign.  She brings an amazing amount of excitement to the campaign that was desperately needed.  She comes as a Washington outsider, something I believe the American public craves, as they are sick and tired of politics as usual.  She also adds executive experience to the ticket that was desperately needed.  As I’ve noted on many episodes of RedHatBlueHat, part of my dilemma with voting for any of the options was the lack of executive experience.

RedHatBlueHat 12: DNC Convention Analysis

By Tim_Jones On August 29, 2008 Comments

After a few weeks off and with the start of convention season, the RedHatBlueHat crew got back in the saddle this week to discuss the Democrat National Convention, Obama’s VP selection, McCain’s list of options, and we even threw in a little tech talk with a discussion about the impact of Twitter and Identi.ca on campaigning and news delivery.

The cast this week included Shawn Collins, Sam Harrelson (via EVDO FTW), Todd Crawford, Sleepless in Mississippi Mike Allen, and myself. Todd had to drop off a little early, but otherwise we all hung in there for the 68 minute duration.

RedHatBlueHat Podcast Gear

By Tim_Jones On August 8, 2008 Comments

Yes, the RedHatBlueHat podcast team has put together some apparel to support the podcast through Zazzle.com.  We created a few shirts and a couple of trucker caps.  The newest shirts allow you to vote for your choice, Red Hats or Blue Hats!  The RedHatBlueHat podcast is a political podcast hosted by a group of geeks from both sides of the aisle.  The show airs weekly throught the Geekcast network of shows.  We took this week off in hopes of doing a live show at the Affiliate Summit in Boston.

Currently, we’ve only made standard T-shirts and hats, but if there is something special you’re looking for, let me know through my contact form and I’ll happily make one up!  Also, since our logo includes a white iPod, I would steer clear of the plain white color on the t-shirts, as the iPod tends to blend in with the background.  I learned this from personal shopping experience. :)

RedHatBlueHat Episode 11: Ludacris Obama Politics

By Tim_Jones On August 1, 2008 Comments

The eleventh installment of the geek political podcast featured Sam Harrelson, Mike Allen, Jeff Doak, Shawn Collins, Todd Crawford, and myself (until the weather killed my connection).  I was barely able to get revved up and participating when the storms knocked out my internets.  It’s too bad, since I haven’t been that fired up in a while.  Oh well, the political landscape should start providing some good fodder for the show in the coming weeks.

The rest of the crew soldiered on in my absense to discuss Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska facing a seven-count indictment accusing him of accepting financial gifts that weren’t reported on his financial disclosure forms, the rumors of a John Edwards’ love child, and the new Obama ballad by Ludicris.

The discussions became more heated when we began discussing the current economic conditions, as well as the treatment of our prisoners of war.

Finally, the chat turned to whether polls are accurate at this point, and speculation over Vice-President prospects on both sides.

RedHatBlueHat 9: Bring Back the Military Draft

By Tim_Jones On July 21, 2008 Comments

The ninth installment of RedHatBlueHat featured Jeff Doak, Mike Allen, Sam Harrelson, Shawn Collins, Tim Jones, and Todd Crawford.

The show welcomed a new voice this week with Jeff Doak, and kicked off with a discussion on the cover of the latest issue of the New Yorker Magazine with Barack and Michelle Obama.

We moved on to cover John McCain on Viagra and Obama supporting “age-appropriate sex education” for Kindergartners.

Also, some talk of the differences between Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain and how comedians can’t seem to find anything funny to say about Barry Hussein Obama. We discussed the fact that his race could play a factor with late night comedians, but I think the real story is that Obama lacks the experiences for the comedians to latch onto and make fun of on their shows. Additionally, the Lord Messiah Barack Hussein Obama has put out the edict that we are not to joke about his ears, his name, his reverend, his grandmother, his wife,…..

We touched on the real meaning of jihad and the enigma that is George W. Bush.

Shawn brought up a discussion on the New York Times memo from standards editor Craig Whitney that forbids reporters and editors from putting political stickers on their personal vehicles and political signs in their yards. The press restricting the freedom of speech. Priceless. I want to know what constitutes a “political” bumper sticker. Does my NRA sticker count? How about my American flag sticker? Obama would probably see that as political, considering his varying stance on the flag pin.

Finally, there was a lengthy exchange about whether the draft should be instituted, as both McCain and Obama agree that the troop levels in Afghanistan should be increased. Sam felt the draft needed to be re-instituted to “balance” the sacrifice made by all parts of the country and across the socio-economic spectrum in direct opposition to the Heritage Foundation study that showed that our volunteer military closely matches the demographics of the US as a whole, including an increase from 2001 to 2005 in highly educated and urban recruits.

RedHatBlueHat Podcast Episode 8

By Tim_Jones On July 14, 2008 Comments

The show got back to normal this week with the full roster of hosts, including Mike Allen, Todd Crawford, Sam Harrelson, Shawn Collins, and myself. This week started off with a good discussion about the photo-chopped pictures from Iran showing an extra missile during their tests, this week. Although not an unexpected use of propaganda from the Iranians, the group agreed that Iran having a missile that can reach Israel does not bode well for any talks that may or may not occur(ing) between the US and Iran.

Following on the heels of one crazy person to another, we could not resist talking about Jesse Jackson’s “n*&#s” comment. Mike asserted, and I am apt to agree, that this only helps Obama by creating some distance between himself and some of the “nut-jobs” (pun intended) on the left. Jesse may be seeing his “race pimping” (HT: Boortz) days coming to an end, as well as his extorted cash flow, so I can understand that he might harbor some ill-will towards Mr. Obama. :)

With Jesse obviously out of the race for VP, we discussed Robert Novak’s new column on Human Events that offered his opinion/handicapping of the potential VPs for both candidates. We were all surprised that Mike Huckabee did not make Novak’s list for McCain potentials. We discussed our opinions of best options for each candidate, with much needling coming from both sides.

We finished up with talk of forgiving Hillary’s debt. She seems to be as “left” out in the wind by RedHatBlueHat as she should be by Obama.
