Don’t Stick Your Tongue In My Mouth @IZEAFest

By Tim_Jones On October 27, 2009 Under Blogging, Conferences, Featured, Online Business

Welcome back!

<blockquote>When I shake your hand, don’t stick your tongue in my mouth!

Some great advice from Chris Brogan at IZEAFest 2009.  He was talking about relationship disconnects — shoving your business card in my hand before we’ve even met, giving me a sales pitch following your name, throwing business cards out like they’re ninja stars — all examples of this relationship disconnect.

Avoid the “NASCARification” of you!  What’s your focus?  What’s your niche?  If your all over the place, your income will match that strategy.

One of the comments that I heard at IZEAFest was, “I’m just….”  Never, ever, ever say, “I’m just…”  Everyone is an expert at something!  Find that something and go after it!  That’s what people mean when they say follow your passion.  You’re not “just a personal blog” — you blog about parenting, politics, and current events.  You’re not “just a mommie blogger.” You blog about nursing issues, parenting issues, toy recalls.  People need this information.  Your solving someone’s problem.

That’s really what blogging for income or affiliate marketing for income really boils down to — what problem are you solving? What solution does your product or service provide?  It may take some thought and strategy (I know, work), but you should consider this question anytime your writing a post, creating a landing page, developing a PPC campaign, and so on.

Next point in the video can be summed up by friend, Sam Harrelson — just click on the link, it’s his secret to success. :)

Here’s a few other “talking points” from the video:

  • Be helpful.
  • Give your ideas handles.
  • Be humble.

Watch the video — there’s a lot of funny stuff, too. :)
