Epcot Wine Festival Opening with Gary Vaynerchuk

By Tim_Jones On September 28, 2009 Under Featured, Social Media

Welcome back!

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV fame at the opening to Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival.  Even though I’ve had the chance to meet Gary at BlogWorld and Affiliate Summit, our paths just had not crossed until now.

I also love wine — I just don’t know much about it, other than I know what I like.  So, this was a great opportunity to learn more about wine, what to try, what to look for, what to pay, and so on.  Gary is great in this respect, as he keeps wine-tasting simple.  He absolutely destroys the “hoity-toity” persona normally associated with wine connoisseurs.

I learned a lot from Gary in a very short period of time, including — 1) You need to “de-cant” your wines, always.  If nothing else, open the bottle and let it sit for a while.  We even noticed the wine getting better just by sitting in the glass for a little while.  2)Try everything!  Don’t get stuck in a rut and focus on one varietal.  The only way to develop your palette is to try lots of different wines.  3) Smell makes a HUGE difference with the wine.  Wow!!  Literally, night and day difference if you swirl the wine, get a good sniffy-sniffy, and then drink.  You can get some great tips about wine just watching Gary’s daily video podcast at WineLibrary.tv, every day.

I took a little video with the Flip (of course) and you get to see Gary tell us a little about himself (I was shocked how many people came to the event that didn’t know Gary), a little sniffy-sniff, and finally, Gary’s tasting technique.

I had really hoped that Gary would have some advance copies of his new book, Crush It, but he did not.  Oh well, I really want it on my new Kindle, anyway :)

  • Got to love Gary. Tim, did you give the wine a little sniffy sniff?
  • I got a new kindle last night at Wings and Pins, however it doesn't work. I've got to get it back tot he person who gave it to me so that they can get their money back.
  • Gary is very good at what he does. I also like his positive, "can do" entrepreneurial attitude. He lives the American Dream and encourages others to do the same.
