What an AMAZING keynote address from Peter Shankman!!! One of his key principles was brevity, so I’ll keep this short, since I couldn’t begin to convey the power of the message.
Peter suggested 4 rules to social media:
- Transparency
- Relevance — giving people what they want, when they want it. For example, as bloggers, have you ever asked your readers how they want to receive their information from you? Video? Podcast? Written? Good facts to know.
- Brevity — Get to the point! People’s attention span averages about 2.7 seconds (which interestingly translates to about 140 characters). Ultimately, what does this mean? LEARN TO WRITE!
- Top of Mind Presence — putting yourself in the position that when people are trying to think of “that guy,” they think of YOU! Peter said we only interact with about 3% of our network on a regular basis, the other 97% we don’t give a crap about. Never underestimate the power of getting up half-an-hour earlier and interacting with your network.
Here’s a quick video of the speech, very quick, ADOS quick.
