DIY In The Digital Age

I recently had to replace the timer for my pool pump — electrical components in the salty, Florida beach air just don’t last too long.

In the process, I was reminded of one of the beauties of the digital age and how it applies to DIY projects.

The timer had more than a few wires going several different places.  Whereas, I used to write all the wire colors and corresponding locations down on a piece of paper, but this time, I just whipped out the digital camera.

This makes my projects SO much easier, now.  I do this all the time when I want to remember how someone else built something (that’s how I built parts of my kids playground/treehouse), need to remember how something went together in order to get it back together when I’m done, and to save a note or drawing that I may have done on the fly.

What cool uses do you have for your digital camera, other than documenting your life?

  • I've used a digital camera or my iPhone for the same kinds of things. Other great uses are 1) to "remember" where I parked by snapping a pic of the lot number and location in the parking garage at the airport and 2) to compare products and prices between stores. Of course there are many, many more.
  • These are great suggestions, Mike! I completely forgot the parking one. We use that one all the time at Disney.
