Welcome back!
I’m finding it hard to get back into the swing of things with all the holiday merriment that I’ve been enjoying over the last couple of weeks. Nonetheless, I’m reading to get back on the blogging horse and apologize for the lack of posts, recently.
I am going to start off today talking about one of the coolest stories that I’ve been telling over the holidays. One of my fellow Ponte Vedrans (it’s a small town in NE Florida - where they play the TPC Sawgrass), Jason Sadler, started selling advertising in a unique way over the New Year holiday.
He wears a different shirt, every day for a different company. What’s so unique about that? Well, he charges $1 for January 1 (which happened to be UStream.tv), $2 for January 2, and so on until December 31 for $365. Before you break out the calculators and spreadsheets (because I know you’re all wondering the same thing), this works out to over $66,000 for the year. Not bad money for just wearing a bunch of t-shirts!
Jason does a lot more than just wear the shirt, though. He does at least one YouTube video in the shirt of the day, he has a live stream on UStream.tv every day at 3PM EST, tweets about the shirt, posts several pics to Flickr, and he’s promised to wear the shirts all day — even if he has to go to a wedding (of which he has two scheduled, already), a funeral, or a fancy dinner. He also blogs about the company of the day. He’s been very creative, so far, in his promotion techniques, especially for “just a regular guy,” as he puts it.
Is it shameless promotion? Probably, but I think it’s a unique, fun idea that is gathering quite a following — he’s even had a couple copy cats, with more to come, I’m sure. Plus, it’s cool to see someone in my area creating success, online. Jason also suggests buying a day for a special occasion — your wife’s birthday, an anniversary, a proposal, or whatever. It doesn’t just have to be for plugging a company. I’m hoping someone buys a special occasion to see how Jason plugs that one!
Check out his videos and daily stream for some laughs and some good information about the shirt of the day. Also, you can go to the IWearYourShirt.com calender to see what days Jason has left for purchase. I know I need to grab mine before they get anymore expensive!
