RedHatBlueHat Political Podcast: Episode 15 Biden-Palin Debate

By Tim_Jones On October 3, 2008 Under Podcasts, politics

Welcome to The Real Tim Jones. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or for more frequent, informal updates, you can follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!

In this episode of the RedHatBlueHat podcast, Shawn and I were the only ones to show up to the debate.  Obviously, being the day of the debate between Vice-Presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, we discussed what we expected of the debate.  Personally, debates do little for me.  The answers are typically pretty standard, exactly what you would expect from either side, and they never change my vote.  The essense of this debate basically boiled down to the left hoping that Biden didn’t provide any more gaffes as ammo for the right and the right hoping for a clear, conservative message from Palin, without any stumbles.  As is usually the case, depending on which poll for which news service, both Biden and Palin won the debate.  As I said, these things do little for me.

We also discussed the government bail-out bill at some length, the increase in the FDIC limit, and the incredible amount of pork that has been added to the bail-out bill.

For some of the more interesting topics, we discussed ACORNs role in elections and their association with Obama, Pelosi’s future in the party (regardless of who gains/retains control of the House), and the potential for voter fraud in the early voting states.

Shawn and I also admitted to grave errors in our past when we fell victim to the Dark Side and voted for Democrat candidates for President.  We were all young and misinformed, once.  :)

  • I'm sorry to have missed this podcast but am glad you two powerhouses kept it going.

Both Biden and Palin skirted the questions. Interestingly, though, most of the factual errors came from Biden who was shockingly wrong on a number of foreign policy issues. Remember, these are issues that he should have easily known if he is half the expert we are so often told he is.

If Palin had gotten Hamas and Hezbollah mixed up like Biden did we would still be hearing about it. If Palin had gotten a terrorist group and Syria confused over their involvement in Lebanon as Biden did we would still be hearing about it.

Bottom line: Palin did better than Biden and thus won the debate.
  • the VP debate was stunning. Palin did a decent job faking about 20% of the questions and didn't even bother answering the other 80%.

i couldn't help thinking of the end of the movie Billy Madison, when the debate moderator says to Adam Sandler, "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
